Dear Gary, N.B. Witch Hazel – Re-fit by Driftwood Joinery We are writing in connection with the recent work you have undertaken on our boat, Witch Hazel. When we first discussed undertaking works on the boat we had some rough ideas for improvements we wanted to the layout plus some “must haves”. I have been very impressed with the way we have worked together, us bringing you the outline layout and functionality required from the boat, and you bringing your practical experience of boat fitting and joinery. Together, I think we have come up with a very practical boat which makes excellent use of space and meets all of our requirements. We have also been impressed with the flexibility you have shown in helping us to develop design solutions and changing any ideas or concepts which haven’t worked. The quality of the finished product is first class and the people we have shown the boat to can’t believe it is the same boat. Many thanks for the work you have undertaken, we are proud of the boat and we hope you are too. We look forward to working with you on future projects and would certainly commend you to others. Yours sincerely, Stuart & Tracey Calvert (NB Witch Hazel) |

Dear Gary, Re: DRIFTWOOD JOINERY Just a few lines to let you know how very pleased we are with the alterations you have made to the bedroom on our narrowboat. Without your ideas, expertise and understanding of our requirements, we would not have appreciated what could be achieved. We cannot believe the difference it's actually made, in the overall space you have achieved within the same environment. We would have no hesitation in using Driftwood Joinery for any future projects that we undertake. Regards Dave & Rita Cowap (NB Amarone) 26/06/10 Dear Gary, N.B. Nellie – Removable shelving unit by Driftwood Joinery Like most narrowboats there's always a challenge to get sufficient storage space, even in our 70' boat! I came up with an idea to have an easily removable shelving unit fitted into the utility-room door aperture however I didn't want to make any modifications to the existing structure. The concept was discussed with Gary and, with his natural creativity, he quickly improved on my initial idea, sketching out a way of getting even more storage space while making access behind save, quick and easy. Gary constructed a prototype to test the concept and, with minor improvements, constructed the final unit in ash to match the existing woodwork. I now have around 35 cubic feet of additional storage ( instead of a "dead" space behind a door) that can be safely and easily moved /without emptying/ to gain access to the central heating boiler for maintenance. It looks fully fitted but it's completely removable should that ever be necessary. Working with Gary and his team was easy and a pleasure; we agreed a time-scale and a price for completion and that was achieved. I would recommend Driftwood to anyone considering fitting out their boat, especially if something unusual is desired. Andy Hellyar-Brook (NB Nellie) Traditional narrowboat joinery and boat builders.
